BIOGRAPHY
JONA COLLINS, Allied ASID
Jona Collins' style is as diverse as an artist's palette. Her bold choices in interior design are intricate and eye-catching, combining traditional elegance with cutting edge technique. This daring artistic eye is part of the tapestry which weaves in her talents in high-end fashion, design education, and professional furniture décor, focusing on the integrity of a space while making each one unique. A residential interior designer for the past eight years, Jona launched her own firm, JCID LLC, in 2003.
A San Francisco native, Jona moved to Los Angeles to begin her design education at Otis Parsons Design Institute. It was there that she explored her talents as a seamstress for a tailoring boutique in Santa Monica, skills which she acquired at a young age. Under her mother's influence, Jona developed an early eye for creativity and business: Creating costumes for her friends in their own backyard productions. It wasn't long until Jona branched out into her own exciting line in L.A., designing and creating stage costumes for various well-known performers in the music industry.
One talent soon threaded into the next, as she pursued her passion for interior design. Launching her own furniture business, she quickly began developing clientele and received recognition for her design at shows in Nevada-NFR, 1998 and the NRCHA World Championship California, 1997, in which her work was described as, "Quintessential western elegance with a rustic charm."
This elegance lies at the heart of Jona's work today. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2001, she has been specializing in commercial and high end residential interior design, handling a large volume of clients built solely on referrals. Included in her portfolio are philanthropic projects such as San Francisco's annual Dining by Design event, as well as design for the Dickens Showcase House Charity, which the San Mateo Times noted as, "the must-see jubilant playroom for its fresh use of color and its invitation to creativity."
Like any true artist, Jona entwines both meticulous detail and free spiritedness in her design. This ability to be diverse is what interlaces her various projects from a Pacific Heights estate to a ranch property; the same sundry style which keeps her comfortable in a strand of pearls or a pair of riding boots while enjoying the outdoors with her mare.
Jona continues to challenge her design beyond the boundaries of a singular style, keeping JCID an elegant and unique presence throughout the Bay Area. Her focus remains in the integrity of the space and the needs of her clients, including project management, conceptual drawings, and traveling to find the most distinctive pieces available for each of her projects. Her work can also be found on HGTV's design series, "Double Take."
